Rwanda Primates Trekking Rules and Regulations

  • In case Nyungwe Forest National Park is your next dream destination, the following are some rules and regulations while on your primates tracking tour.
  • First, you are required to keep a distance of 8 meters away from these creatures.
  • Chimpanzees like any large ape are susceptible to human infectious diseases. They share about 98% of their DNA with humans.
  • Chimpanzee tracking is strictly for only 6 people in a group.
  • For visitors with flue or diarrhea, you may not be permitted to go and track.
  • Don’t eat next to the chimpanzees if you want to enjoy this Rwanda primates tour safari
  • If your camera has a flashlight; you are advised to turn it off while taking photos.
  • Chimpanzees require maximum freedom and this means they need not to be irritated once you are in the forest.
  • You have only 1 hour to be with the chimpanzees

Day 1: Airport Pikcup – Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

On arrival in Kigali, a tour guide from Amazing Gorilla Safaris and after a briefing about your 3 Days Rwanda Primates tour, you will be transferred to Nyungwe forest national park through Kigali on a 4 hours journey. You may ask your driver for photographic stopover moments along the way. On arrival at the park headquarters, you will check-in at the One and Only Nyungwe House or Nyungwe Forest lodge for your 3 Days Primates Tracking Safari accommodation. In the evening, you will enjoy views of the suburbs of the evergreen Nyungwe forest and tea plantations then have dinner and slumber at your lodge.

Day 2: Primates Tracking Experience in Nyungwe Forest

Today morning, we shall have a sumptuous breakfast and then set off to meet other fellow primates trackers of the day at the park headquarters for a briefing about chimpanzees and monkey tracking in Nyungwe forest.  By 8:00 am, the search for the Nyungwe primates begins!. The park guides are experienced and knowledgeable about Nyungwe’s wildlife, they will provide you with all the relevant information about the behavior of the primates, that is, how they feed, reproduce and pray with each other, thus making your trip informative.

Nyungwe Forest is home to over 13 primates species, and among those to look out for include; the chimpanzees, the handsome L’Hoest’s monkey, the endangered golden monkeys, strong troops of the delightfully acrobatic Angola Colobus, vervet monkeys, Silver Monkey, Hamlyn’s Monkey, Red-tailed Monkey, Dent’s Mona Monkey, Olive Baboon, Grey-cheeked Mangabeys and so on.

The trek will also expose you to excellent birding. Nyungwe forest harbors almost 300 bird species of which two dozen are restricted to a handful of montane forests on the Albertine Rift. These include; the great blue Turaco and the Rwenzori Turaco, paradise flycatcher, a long-tailed blue, orange and white bird, and the forest hornbills among others.

After the primates and bird watching experience, you will return to the lodge for lunch, relax and wait for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Departure, End of Rwanda Primates Tour

Being our last day of the Rwanda primates tour, we shall have a day hike before exiting the park for Kigali. The trail will take us to the Gusakula Tea Estates and Lake Kivu for an exciting excursion and hike of the day. (2-3hrs walk). After a stretcher of the hiking activity, embark on your trip to Kigali for your flight back home with lunch en-route.
